The very first post (ever)

  • Post last modified:December 16, 2025

There is no good place to start something like this, especially when one is not clear what direction things are going to go.  That being part of the fun.  But one has to begin somewhere… so here goes.

The idea for this site comes from a workplace discovery.  It turned out that my most useful and appreciated management initiative was to provide (intentional) organizational status updates, usually in group email form (after that was invented), that allowed everyone to be aware of stuff that mattered, or, in some cases, didn’t matter but was fun to share. Everything from gently introducing critical policy stuff or celebrating achievements, to an emotionally sensitive account of giving an office plant a much-needed haircut.  Whether I can draw on that experience here, one way or another we’ll find out.

What you read here is and always will be writing in the exalted tradition of blood, sweat, and tears:  an honest attempt to offer my take on the stuff that we all see in front of us.  Whether successful or not, the reader can be the judge. With the rapidly emerging power of artificial intelligence and the world’s fascination with social media, the posts I have in mind do not borrow or subscribe to either. It would be a simple matter to use genAI to generate believable content, but that would tragically undermine my intention.

One of the things to expect is a kind of topical randomness across a range of things that I care about and, more importantly, know something about.  Little stuff like keeping bunnies out of the backyard, and bigger stuff like why it seems like a good time to acquire and raise Canada’s flag.  And lots of stuff in between.

This, in truth, is one of my projects now that I don’t have a day job.  Maybe it will amount to something that feels worthwhile.  Perhaps a few people will read these posts and feel that something good, however modest, got added to their lives as a result.  In any case, creating a quiet public record of this strikes me to be an idea worth pursuing.

And thank goodness for YouTube videos on building a WordPress website that works for this endeavour. Onwards we go.
